How builds work in Deadlock

Deadlock has no fixed item slots per hero. Every item belongs to one of three categories, Weapon, Vitality or Spirit, and sits in one of four cost tiers, and each category has a limited number of slots, with extra flex slots that unlock as your team takes objectives. So a build is really two decisions: which category you invest in, and which specific items you buy in what order. Owning items in a category also grants that category's passive bonus, which is why a build usually leans into one or two categories rather than spreading evenly across all three.

How to use these guides

Each hero page opens with the hero's role and Valve's own description of how they are meant to be played, then lists all four abilities and the full base stat block. The win rate at the top is live and filtered to the current patch, so it is the same number you see on the tier list. Read the abilities first: whether a hero scales off weapon damage or spirit power decides most of the build before you have bought anything, and the base stats tell you what the hero lacks that items have to cover.

Builds go stale fast

Item balance changes at least as often as hero balance. The July 28 update alone touched more than twenty items, several of them by removing or replacing an innate bonus outright, which turned a few standard purchases into wasted souls overnight. A build copied from a video that is a month old can be built around an item that no longer does what it did. Check the patch date on anything you copy, and when a hero moves sharply on the tier list after an item pass, assume the build moved with it.
